Traceroute from APO to IP Address

IP Address:

traceroute is useful to check for bad paths between APO and the user. Look for links with jumps in time > 50 ms, overall round trip times > 150 ms, and large standard deviation. The important thing is that after the first two hops, the time should be no more than a few tens of milliseconds.

traceroute may take a few minutes because some hops can not be measured and time out. It is common that some hops can not be measured because the link does not support the ICMP trace packets. If the results have not come back in a few minutes, then, try another IP address that is close to the one you are tracing.

To test the link from your computer to APO, use traceroute www.apo.nmsu.edu This will work on Mac OS X and Unix machines from the command line.
